Don’t say you don’t have enough time. You have exactly the same number of hours per day that were given to Helen Keller, Louis Pasteur, Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Thomas Jefferson & Albert Einstein.
~ Jackson Brown Jr., writer

The key to getting the most out of your day is to have a daily list. Sure “to do” lists get a bad rap but when used properly they can really help you crank out the work.

There are a number of different approaches and your final choice will depend on your circumstances and your personality. Just be careful give it a good chance before changing or tweaking or you could be slipping into excuses.

Here is one method I have found to be very effective

List the things you want to accomplish in the day then put a priority on each task.

A – must be done today – life or death

B – would be great if it was done today

C – can afford to wait till tomorrow

Then looking at all the A tasks put them in the order you want to do them 1,2,3 etc. Do the same for B  tasks.

Now start with A1, finish it before moving to A2, then A3 and so on. Once all the A’s are complete move on to the B’s

No further thought required, you just motor through the tasks at hand.

A few tips to make this work for you:

  • The tasks need to be at the right level for you to make progress. So coming up with a complete product would not be a single task. You would break that down further.
  • Set time aside on a weekly basis for thinking on a higher level to produce your overall task lists.
  • If you have calls to make or return gather them together in a list and complete them in a block or in between other tasks if you need a change of pace.

If you are struggling to control your time and get the results you know you are capable of then it is time to take action.
